Additions & Renovations

Planning is the key to a successful renovation. If you are looking for ideas, or struggling to figure out how to get what you want out of what you have – come see us. We have over 19 years of design experience (over 30 years of combined experience). Our experience will assist you in getting what you want out of your existing home.

Every addition/renovation project needs to begin with Designing & Planning. Have us lay it out on paper. A well planned & designed project will always be constructed smoother, quicker, and cheaper. Allow us to help you plan out your project.

Some items to consider for renovation projects: structure of building, components of existing walls, roof supports, materials used in existing structure, etc.

Additions/Renovations can be large or small. Clients often think of adding on when they love their current property and area and want more space or to update and add value to their home. For whatever reason you want to build and addition, we are here to help you. Additions, although often smaller than new projects, require a lot of information and often similar design hours. The more information you can provide for us about the existing surroundings and current structure the better. Always take measurements from areas like: edge of foundation, top of main floor, & centre of interior walls. And the most important thing is to bring us pictures! Take lots of pictures. We love getting pictures of existing structures for additions…a picture is worth a thousand questions. Try to capture each exterior face (north, south, east, west) as straight on as possible. Also snap shots from inside at all areas of the project locations, and any other areas where you can see existing construction. Close-up of certain items are a good idea also.

It is also very important to provide us with as much site information as possible. If you have the original surveyors plan that is great! If that is not possible, try to find out the lot size and measurement of the required setbacks and any easements that may exist. Typically additions are built on a foundation that has a crawlspace below. However, other conditions may lead to other types of foundation designs for your addition.

A site visit can be arrange for projects should we require very specific information, but most of the time we can get all the information we need through pictures and onsite measurements done by clients. Below you will find an information package of the common items we would require.
